Update, Update, Update

I should really be working on my mid-term for my Motivation class, but I really have no idea what I am doing on it, even if my professor says that there are no right or wrong answers...I have to somehow come up with 5 page answers for 3 essay questions. I read my mom the questions and she thinks they are ridiculous. One essay is to discuss what our final paper is going to be about--of which he informs us some people use as their dissertation--good lord what have I gotten myself into? I am a NON-thesis master's degree student and we could use this for our dissertation...I have a feeling the 4.0 in grad school might be gone after this semester. Hopefully I can pull it out though.

We hosted Colorado on Wednesday & swept them. 25-18, 25-23, 25-17...we played great and the game was so much fun! Saturday wasn't as joyous for the Tigers. We got swept at Iowa State, 18-25, 15-25, 20-25. Iowa State is on a roll right now, as they beat K-State in 5 on Wednesday. This week we travel to ku on Wednesday and host Tech on Saturday.

Football had a HUGE weekend! They shut out Colorado 58-0. Colorado had the third longest streak for not being shut out, 243 games which dates back to November 1988. HUGE HUGE HUGE for the Tigers! It is Mizzou's first shut out in Big 12 play. Chase Daniel matched his school record with five touchdown passes and Chase Coffman set a career record for receptions by a Division I tight end. We moved up in the rankings to #14. Football travels to Baylor on Saturday, but the game isn't on TV. I guess I will just have to watch GameTracker at the Hearnes on Saturday.

Soccer beat Baylor on Friday night 2-0. Unfortunately they fell to Texas today 1-2. I'm not sure where they stand right now, because soccer has ties and such..so I am not sure how to interpret their standings on the website. There are 3 teams with 6 wins, but OSU has 1 loss & 2 ties, Colorado has 2 losses & 2 ties and we have 3 losses & no ties. I do know that A&M is 7-2-1 and doesn't have a game this upcoming weekend, so their record is final. I guess we will just have to wait and see how things end up. Soccer closes out the season on Friday vs kansas at 6:30.

Alrighty, back to the mid-term, maybe I can make up some stuff that will make me sound like I know what I am talking about! Have a great week. :)

I've Received an Award!!

That's right I have received a blogging award. Quite honestly I didn't know these even existed and once you read the description hopefully you will understand it, because parts of it really confuse me. Thankfully I am not the only one...Adriene says it doesn't make a lot of sense either, anyways here it is. Here is the award that Sherri from The Barnes Crew gave me:

Here's the translation of the award and the meaning behind it:
“This blog invests and believes, in ‘proximity’ [meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' - being close through proxy] "They are all charming blogs, and the majority of them aim to show the marvels of friendship; there are persons who are not interested when we give them a prize, and then they help to cut these bows; do we want that they are cut, or that they propagate?" Then let’s try to give more attention to them! So with this prize we must deliver it to eight bloggers that in turn must make the same thing and put this text.”

So thanks Sherri!!!

The Eight Bloggers I award are:
1. Emily
2. Melissa
3. Trey
4. Doug
5. Andreia
6. Alisha
7. Tandy
8. Bruce & Amanda

Thanks for reading my blog--and enjoy your award!

The Weekend Revisited

This blog will be short and sweet. Most of us who work in the athletic department at Mizzou do no wish to re-live the past weekend (except the soccer team who did phenomenal this past weekend). UT as a whole wasn't very kind to the Tigers this weekend.

Friday I flew to Austin with the volleyball team for our game against the University of Texas. They are ranked No. 3 in the nation. Needless to say it by far wasn't our best game ever. We were swept 13-25, 20-25, 12-25. That brings us to 9-10 on the year and 3-6 in Big 12. Good news though, our destiny is in our own hands. We are currently tied for 9th out of 11, but only 1 game out of a huge tie for 5th and 2 games out of a tie for 4th, and we have a fairly easy schedule compared to most teams the next 5 games. We still have a chance to make the tournament.

Saturday the football team played in Austin as well against the #1 Longhorns. For anyone that watched the game knows that the first half for the Tigers was dismal. Thankfully we came out the 2nd half and played much better, but we were already so far behind that we couldn't make up the difference. Sadly we dropped to #16 in the polls, but we should win out if we take care of business and still make the Big 12 Championship game. One game at a time though.

Soccer had a phenomenal weekend though. They played Francis Marion on Friday night and won 6-1, then they went down to College Station to play No. 6 A&M who they shut out 6-0! A&M was tied for 1st in the conference so that win was huge. If soccer wins their next 3 conference games, they will win the conference outright. :)

This week in the volleyball world we host Colorado on Wednesday and travel to Iowa State on Friday for a game on Saturday (bus trip, sad I know, but bus trips don't bother me at all). Good news, we get the "Rock Star Bus" which is the bus with the 12 sleeper beds and then couch like seats in the front & back. The major plus to that is that we can watch TV on digital cable, which is great because our volleyball game is at 2pm and the football game vs Colorado (Homecoming) is on FSN at 5:30 pm so we will be able to watch the game on our way back. Soccer has a big weekend with games against Baylor on Friday & Texas on Sunday.

I've Been Tagged

I've been tagged by Adriene to tell 6 things that the blogging world might not know about me, so here is my attempt (as for family reading this, I'm sure you knew most of the already, but plenty of people don't):

1. I've always wanted to be a dancer. Maybe this was an inhereted thing becuase my mom always wanted to be one as well, but dancing just amazes me. I LOVE dancing, even if at times I have no idea what is going on. I never took dance as a child, as I was way too involved in other things, but I have always been intrigued by it. Dance movies always seem to be my favorite as well. Although, I guess after see dancers and their build, I don't think God built me that way.

2. I was a cheerleader from 8th grade until my junior year. My senior year I decided to be an athletic trainer so I couldn't cheer. I'm glad I made that decision because it lead to my future. (On a side note, I loved going to camp and learning new dances!)

3. I LOVE jewelry. I really miss living close to all the cheap jewelry stores in Amarillo & Lubbock. When I go home The Jewelry Box & Dustee's are always a MUST STOP for me. I have tons of necklaces and earrings, but always seem to find something that I absolutely must have--thank goodness I am content with the cheap jewelry, although I will admit I love the expensive stuff too, I'm just too poor to buy it. Every month I am so excited to get the James Avery catalog in the mail to see what new stuff they have.

4. I have always wanted to be a boys' basketball coach. I am such a Daddy's girl, he is truly my hero, and I since I was little I've wanted to be just like him. I've been a girls' basketball coach, but boys basketball is so much more interesting to me. Girls are just a different breed to deal with--soo much drama involved! Coach Cooke keeps telling me he is going to hire me as an assistant because I am so knowledgable (thanks Dad!), so maybe one day my dream will come true!

5. I love working out at my grandpa's farm or on any farm/ranch for that matter. Driving the tractor, putting out hay, working in the garden, working calves, moving cattle, painting fence, etc... A little crazy I know, but that's the tomboy coming out in me.

6. I am a lake rat. I could spend everyday in the summer at the lake, swimming, tubing, water skiing, wake boarding, laying out, and even occasionally fishing (but if I catch anything I won't take the fish off the hook). I love going to Possum Kingdom to our family lake cabin and spending time, and will even settle for going to tiny Lake Mackenzie in my hometown where you can only ski in one direction around the island in the middle of the lake.

I tag Emily, Andreia, Melissa & Tandy...have fun girls!

Down with the Jayhawks

Yeah!!!! We beat the Jayhawks tonight in 4 games, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-19. :) Anytime we get a win over Kansas it is a joyous occasion. That brings us to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in Big 12. We have one day of practice, then head to Austin to play the #3 Longhorns on Friday night.

Football plays Texas on Saturday night at 7pm on ABC. Be sure to tune into the game and cheer loud for the Tigers. ESPN GameDay will also be in Austin, so it will be a fun filled day. I wish I was staying overnight for the game, but instead I am going to cover the swim meet for Casey (aren't I nice) and then head to Em & Kyle's house for a relaxing weekend away! It was also announced this week that our Oct. 25th Homecoming Game vs Colorado will be on FSN @ 5:30 pm. Gotta love those TV games, especially since I will be in Ames, Iowa that day for a volleyball match.

Another Fan Vote is up! Go vote for Chase for the Davey O'Brien aware at http://www.voteobrien.org/register.asp. He is also a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award!

GO TIGERS!

Taking a Poll

So I can't decide what I want to do with my hair....grow it out long or cut it short again, so I'm asking everyone else their opinion. Now I know many of you haven't seen my hair long like I used to wear it, so I'm posting pictures....and let me know what you think.

Of course, if I decide to grow it out, it will take what will seem like FOREVER for it to grow, but I am optimistic that I can be patient ;)

No comments on how AWFUL I look in the first pic below...Katie and I went and ran right before I got my haircut & I had literally just rolled out of bed when I went to the track.

Rough Weekend

It was a rough weekend for the athletic world at Mizzou. The weekend started off promising as

soccer defeated Oklahoma 2-0, but it was downhill from there. With Texas beating OU, the stage was set for the football team to continue to move up in the polls, but unfortuantely, after a hard fought game we fell to Oklahoma State 28-23, dropping us to No. 11 in the polls. We have a great chance to redeem ourselves on Saturday as they travel to Austin on Saturday to play the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns. GO TIGERS!

Sunday volleyball hosted No. 2 Nebraska. We fell in 3, but played well. We put up a fight with game scores being 25-20, 25-21, 25-18. This brings our records to 8-9, 2-5. We host Kansas on Wednesday--it's another regional TV game, so help us pack the Hearnes and travel to Texas on Friday. It's definitely a busy week. To close out the weekend, soccer played at OSU and lost in overtime. OSU was ranked a few spots ahead of Mizzou, but we were really hoping for the upset.

Here's a few pictures from the weekend. I have more pictures, but they are on my mom's camera and I haven't gotten them from her yet.

Purple People Eaters

Yesterday we traveled to Manhattan, Kansas to play K-State. We fell in 4, but it was a hard fought match. All the games were very close. We won the first one, 25-22, then lost the next three, 22-25, 23-25, 22-25. One of our sophomores, Catie, scored a team-high, season-high, and tied-career-high 12 kills. This brings our overall record to 8-8 and 2-4 in Big 12. We have 3 games in 6 days coming up. Sunday we host No. 2 Nebraska. It's "Can the Husker" day at Hearnes. If you bring 2 cans of food you get in free & we want to pack the Hearnes because our game will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Network. Then on Wednseday we host Kansas, another TV game on Mizzou Sports Network. On Friday we play @ No. 3 Texas. As you can see it will be a tough week. I wish I was staying the night in Austin and going to the football game on Saturday, but I can't seem to get that worked out.

My parents are coming up tomorrow and I am SUPER excited! They should be here around supper time. Saturday morning I have practice and then we have a sports medicine pre-game tailgate at Casey's parents house. Several doctors are coming into town and cooking for us. Nebraska also has practice, but I can work around all of that. Then it's off the football game. Kickoff is at 7pm and the game is on ESPN2. Go Tigers!

Ups & Downs

Saturday was a day of ups & downs. I got to watch part of the Tech game while eating at Carino's for our pre-game meal. I still cheer for them to win (except last year when they played Mizzou) and they won big today. 58-28 over K-State. Graham Harrell threw six touchdown passes and became Tech's all time leader in yards passing. Graham surpassed Kliff Kingsbury's record, which Kliff set while I was at Tech. Michael Crabtree also tied the Tech career touchdown record today with 30 overall.

Unfortunately we didn't come up on the winning end in volleyball tonight. A&M beat us in 5, 27-25, 19-25, 18-25, 25-23, 4-15. That brings our record to 8-7, 2-3 in Big 12 play. We struggle to play consistently, which is really hurting us in conference. Mizzou has only won at A&M once since the Big 12 was formed. A&M is a very tough place to go play and they always seem to play great at home. Wednesday we travel to K State & the game is on FSN-Kansas City for those of you who live in Columbia. After that we begin our 3 games in 6 days series, Sunday against Nebraksa, Wednesday against Kansas & Friday at Texas. Nebraska & Kansas are on TV as well--so if you are in town, come pack the Hearnes for it!

Now the football team pounded Nebraska 52-17. We didn't get home in time to watch any of the game, but I am catching up on it right now. I LOVE my DVR. The 35-point defeat was the Huskers' most lopsided home loss in 53 years and fifth-worst in Lincoln in the program's 119-year history. Of course it was also the first time Mizzou has won at Nebraska in 30 years! Awesome job tonight Tigers! Next weekend the Tigers host Oklahoma State who is also undefeated with a 5-0 record. It sounds like it will be a great game.

My parents are coming up on Friday and going to the football game on Saturday & the volleyball game on Sunday. I know I saw them a week and a half ago, but I am so excited to see them again! It will be another busy weekend, but I will get to spend some time with them.

A New Look

The Hearnes Center aquired a new look this week, and I must say it looks amazing. Sadly, I have no pictures, so you will just have to come check it out yourself (ok, I'll take pictures sometime and post them, but things are a tad-bit busy right now). We ordered 35 foot banners to go on the 4 sides of Hearnes. They are HUGE, but make the main floor look so much better. It was so nice to see the finished product after helping vote for the design and see all the work that went into it. One side of the court says Mizzou, the other side says Tigers, both have a huge Tigerhead watermark behind them, then on one end is a 43' by 35' Big 12 logo with gymnastics and wrestling accomplishments beside it, and on the other end is a 42' by 35' Tiger head with the volleyball accomplisments on the sides of it. If you live in Columbia and haven't seen them, it is definitely worth a trip to the Hearnes, and while you're there catch a volleyball game, wrestling match or gymnastics meet.

Anyways, enough about the banners, we hosted Iowa State on Wednesday and pulled out a 5 game win against them. We started out up 2-0, then lost games 3 and 4, but played a great game 5 to win the match. ISU actually has a high RPI ranking, so that win was really big for us. Saturday we travel to A&M to play them, football is @ Nebraska, and soccer's at home all weekend. I highly suggest watching the FB game at 8 pm on ESPN. It's gonna be a great one!

Go Tigers!
